With a desperate want to get back into showing you more of my life on the blog and behind the scenes, which was one of my intentions for 2018. I thought it would be nice to return to the previous lifestyle posts that I loved writing in the past. It was always nice to look back on my old Life in Rewind posts, so here are some snippets from January in my first Life Lately post of 2018.
Long weekend in the Forest
Alfie and I decided that we all needed a break, especially since we didn’t have a holiday last year. We’re hoping to travel more this year, but we thought a nice short break at the end of January would do us the world of good. While searching for inspiration, we stumbled across Keldy in Yorkshire and fell in love with the idea of staying in a log cabin the forest. Now Aiden loves being outdoors in the mud so it made perfect sense for us to choose an outdoorsy break away. We absolutely loved it and totally fell in love with the idea of staying in a cabin over a hotel. We ate lots of food, went for long walks in the forest and generally just relaxed and caught up on our sleep. It’s safe to say that we’re already planning our next forest retreat in a different location.
Getting back into reading
Getting back into reading is another intention of mine for this year and this month I’ve loved digging into Self Care For The Real World and The Clever Guts Diet – both great reads!
Being intentional about my social media use
Lately, I’ve had a love/hate relationship with social media. I love the connections and friendships that I’ve made through it, but I was discovering that I was spending too much time scrolling through other peoples lives instead of being in my own. During our forest break, I deleted all my social media apps, which is one of the best things that I ever did. I’m hoping to continue being more intentional about my social media use and setting some boundaries that I think will help.
Working a 4-day week
Spending quality time with my family means the world to me and I found that last year this was compromised because of work. Last month we decided to increase Aiden’s days at nursery, which means that I’ve managed to set better work boundaries. I now only work 4 days a week and even manage to finish early every day too. I’m so grateful that we’re in a place now where we’ve been able to achieve this. Of course, there may be times when I have to work weekends during busier periods, but I’m hoping these occurrences will be far and in between.
I can’t believe that we’ve reached the end of the first month in 2018 already. January can sometimes seem like a drag, especially with the constant grey and damp weather, but there have been some lovely moments for me this month.
How was January for you? I would love to hear what your proudest moments of the month were in the comments below.
